on achieving 1st prize in the National final of the INTO/EBS

their pupils and appreciation and thanks is to be extended

Top Youth Swing Band To Perform In Ardee:
Ardee is privileged to be hosting a performance by the top
youth swing band in the North-East. The Groove Big Band was
formed in 2006 from a small number of senior students, past
and present, of the Bailieboro School of Music. Since its
formation it has gained a popular reputation for its enthusiastic,
professional big band sound. The Groove Big Band has recently
performed with the Bailieboro Youth Concert Band to a packed
Helix Concert Hall in Dublin with most of its swing band members
performing in both groups. The Bailieboro Youth Concert Band
will come to visit Ardee at the invitation of Ardee Concert
Band.
This is fourth venture of its kind for Ardee Concert Band
as they previously hosted joint concerts in the past. In 2000
with Mullingar Town Band and Lucan Concert Bands in a three
band concert, then with the Norfolk Broads Concert Band in
2004 and St Eugene’s Concert Band from Omagh in 2007.
Ardee have found these joint ventures very successful not
only musically but also in forging good band relations and
friendships among the bandsmen and women.
The concert will begin at 8pm with a short performance by
the Ardee Concert Junior Band conducted by John Gaynor. Followed
by a performance by Ardee Concert Band Recorder Group who
are under the tutorage of senior band members Laura Jones
and Alan Cox. Also performing on the night will be the Senior
Band conducted by Harry Kelly, the Bailieboro Youth Concert
Band and the Groove Big Band conducted by Michael Gaskin.
The finale of the concert will be a joint performance with
Ardee and Bailieboro playing easy listening entertaining music
such as Beachboys tunes, the Beatles, some Motown and many
more. This concert is unmissable for those band and big band
lovers among you.
The concert will take place in the Bohemian Centre, Ardee
on Friday, May 9th at 8pm. Tickets are €5 each and can
be purchased from any band member or at the door on the night.
Ardee is already in the process of tentative plans to exchange
with the
Fermanagh Concert Band with the view to yet another joint
concert in the
future. Based on the success of past ventures you can be assured
of a good nights entertainment and I’m sure many Ardoinians
will come to support their local band and extend the hand
of welcome to our Cavan visitors.
