Annual Bailieborough Mini-Marathon—Sponsored by Northern
Sound Radio:
This year will be the 14th staging of the Annual Bailieborough
Mini-Marathon—sponsored by Northern Sound Radio—and
it will take place on Sunday next, June 13th, commencing at 2.30pm
from the Market Square. Why don’t you come along and Walk,
Jog or Run for the Charity of your choice or just enjoy a family
day out.
The event is open to people of all ages and has proven to be a
‘hit’ year after year. As in previous years, two routes
will be available to all participants—a six-mile course
and an easier four mile one. Refreshments and awards will be presented
in the Community Centre. Entry fee is €5, payable on the
day. Facilities of the Leisure Centre will be available free of
charge for all participants on the day. For full details, intending

400th Celebrations - Exhibition and Lecture in Brakey Hall:
The Orange Order in association with the Ancient Order of Hibernians,
are hosting a function in Brakey Hall on this Friday, 11th June
at 8pm including an exhibition of banners and memorabilia from
both traditions, and performances from parade bands.
This historic occasion is something not to be missed. Speakers
will give brief talks on both organisations. This is an all inclusive
community event and all are most welcome.

400th Anniversary:
To celebrate Bailieborough’s 400th anniversary a display
of local history projects from the local national schools has
been on display in the Bailieborough Library from 3rd June. Projects
include: history of the Model School, the Castle and Castle Lake
area, Lough An Lae and the Folklore surrounding the area and the
Workhouse and it’s history.
This exhibition has been funded by Peace 3 and facilitated by
the B.D.A. The exhibition will be open during Library hours and

Shamrocks Underage: Under 14s win County Final
Well done to the Under 14s who won the Roinn A League final against
Ramor United on Thursday evening last. The game which was played
in perfect conditions in Kingscourt attracted a large crowd of
supporters from both clubs who contributed to a great atmosphere.
The players in turn responded and we were treated to a thrilling
encounter. Bailieborough won by 3 points after hard fought contest.
In his acceptance speech, team captain Harry O’ Neill praised
the Ramor team for their contribution to a hard sporting match
and thanked mentors Hughie Brady, Philip Dunne, Michael Clarke
and Oliver Tierney for their help and encouragement. Great credit
also to Kingscourt for the professional manner in which they hosted
the game. The team returned to the town amid a sea of red and
white to a well-deserved meal in the Hotel Bailie.
Table Quiz:
As the under 14 team now turn their thoughts to the National Feile
finals in Derry they will be involved in fundraising to help defray
the cost of the event. Next Friday (11th June) the club are holding
a Table Quiz in Giles’ Lounge to support the team. The Quiz
will commence at 9.30 costing ?40 for a table of four. So come
on and support the lads on and enjoy a good evening of crack.
Under 16s:
The Under 16s have qualified fro the semi final of the league
and will play table toppers St Finbarr’s on a date to be
confirmed.
Under 12s:
The under 12s took part in the final day of their competition
on the afternoon of Bank Holiday Monday when the group stages
were played off in Kingspan Breffni park.
Girls Football:
Well done to the under 14 girls who are on a good run at the moment
and are undefeated in the league. Following a win over Ramor last
week they will host Knockbride at home this week.
The under 8 and under 10 girls had a good day out on Saturday
when they took part in a blitz in Knockbride – well done
to everyone involved.
The under 12 girls having qualified for the Ulster semi final
of the community games are training hard and taking part in the
league. This week they play Lurgan.

First Aid Course:
A practical first aid course will be run in the Red Cross Office
on the Cavan Road on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th of June. In
order to complete the course it will be necessary to attend both

MHA's "Mental Health 400" Essay Project:
The prize giving for the Annual East Cavan Essay Project run by
Bailieborough Mental Health Association for the last 10 years,
takes place at 7.30pm on Friday 18th June in the Bailie Hotel.
In light of the town's anniversary this year's theme was "Mental
Health 400 - Mental Health in the Past, Present and Future".
The Minister for Mental Health and Disability
John Moloney TD will attend in person to present the prizes. All

Fundraising Event:
RehabCare Bailieborough is about to embark on an innovative and
dynamic fundraising event. Betty Denning had devoted her time
and skills to produce a picture depicting the fashion worn in
the Victorian era. Peter Stolks, Fundraising Manger Rehab, described
the picture as an incredible work of art put together with immaculate
precession.
This is a once of time original exclusive to this award-winning
designer and is well worth viewing. The picture will be on display
at the auction room of Peter Murtagh, Main Street, Bailieboro
from Friday the 11th June. It will be also auctioned at the Virginia
Fair day at approximately 3.30pm by local auctioneer, Eugene O’Dwyer.
On the 17th June at the Rehabcare Centre, Betty has kindly offered
to exhibit some of award winning memorable pieces. It will be
the first time she had exhibited her art in the Bailieboro area.

Our under 12s performed very well in the recent finals blitz in
Breffni Park 3g. They picked up some valuable tips from the Ulster
Council coaches who were there on the night. Under 8, 10 and 12

and Drumgoon.

'Out
of Canada' comes to Bailieborough, June 19th 2010:
As part of its summer events programme, Bailieborough Arts and
Cultural Centre will host a performance of ‘Out of Canada’
by Canadian actor, Mark Finnan on Saturday June 19th.
This entertaining and informative concert tells of the trials
and triumphs, hardships and heartbreak, losses and loves of some
of the Irish in early Canada, with extracts from Mark Finnan’s
Canadian folk plays ‘The Corktown Man’ and the ‘Ballad
of D’Arcy McGee.’ Mark will be accompanied by Canadian
Traditional musician Glen Caradus who will perform period pieces
from the time and modern pieces composed especially for this concert.

At the end of June as the primary schools shut for their summer
holidays, Bailieborough Arts and Cultural Centre will once again
hold their annual Arts, Crafts, Drama and Dance Summer Camps for

to Friday 2nd July with Week Two commencing on Monday 5th July
to Friday 9th July. Classes run from 10am to 2pm daily.

Women’s Group:
The group has now finished for the Summer and are ending with
a five day trip to Killarney. A donation of €250 each has
been given to Foroige and Scouts for their activities with children.
The group are also working on a Garden project—creating
a Garden to celebrate Bailieborough 400. The Group will complete
this project when they return in September when everyone will
