Book Launch:
Bailieborough Business Centre was packed to capacity on Friday night past for the Launch of Leslie McKeague's new book 'Bailieborough A Pictorial Past'. The Business Centre echoed to the mellow sounds of harp and fiddle prior to the official launch as sisters Mary and Sharon Argue played to the arriving crowds. Shortly after 8pm Peadar Reynolds Chairman of Bailieborough Development Association and MC on the night addressed the crowd.

He welcomed guest speaker Lord Eames, Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Cllr Winston Bennett, TD, Senator, Councillors, Clergy and everyone present and spoke at length about the author.

Peadar then introduced Lord Eames who spoke fondly about his previous visits to Bailieborough. He described the book and how it included all aspects of the community; the reader would see how much things have changed. It would bring back so many memories of events and people and how important memories are in our lives. He said how a picture can speak a thousand words and when he received his copy earlier that morning he was so impressed with it's content and quality.

The author Leslie McKeague replied by thanking Lord Eames for coming to launch his book, how on many occasions he felt he would never reach the launch deadline and had only received the book delivery the previous day. He thanked the wider community who had lent their photographs for inclusion in the book and those who had assisted in any way in making the project possible.

He thanked Peadar Reynolds and the Bailieborough Development Association for their assistance and Peace III in conjunction with Cavan County Council who funded the special edition copies and the launch.
County Chairman Winston Bennett was next to speak and he conveyed his own and the good wishes of Cavan County Council.

Lord Eames and the Cathaoirleach Winston Bennett were presented with signed copies of the book. Leslie then presented special edition copies to David Galligan representing Cavan Genealogy, Josephine Brady, County Librarian, Fiona Burke, Bailieborough Library, Isobel Davidson representing Bailieborough Model School, Sean Hanley, Principal St Anne's NS, Valerie McCormick, Principal Bailieborough Community School and Paul Corcoran, Principal St. Felim's NS. For their help and input he also presented copies to Phil Tierney, Eugene Markey, Garnet Coleman, John B Cosgrave and Anna Sexton (who was unable to attend on the night).

Everyone enjoyed refreshments afterwards and all in all it was a fantastic social evening. Books are currently available from the author or in Halls and Kevin Smith's/Lloyds, Main St.

Bailieborough Shamrocks:
Seniors
The senior team salvaged appoint against Drung in very dramatic fashion in St Anne’s park on Friday last. Trailing by 3 points they were awarded a penalty when Niall Kelly was fouled in the box after making a great catch. He got up and duly dispatched the spot kick to level the scores whereupon the referee blew the final whistle.

The team will be disappointed that they did not win the game as they appeared to have it under control early on however they will be relieved to gain the point considering the circumstances.

The next match is away to Shercock at 7 pm on Saturday next. The reserve fixture between these two sides is at 5.30 on Saturday, again at the Shercock venue.

Bailieborough Celtic A.F.C.:
Hard luck to the Senior team who on Saturday evening last played in the final of the Fitzsimons Cup against Black Bull in the M.D.L. Grounds in Navan. In a very exciting game Bailieborough were very unlucky to come out on the wrong side of a 2—1 scoreline, with Gordon Clarke getting the goal. So not a bad season for the Club when all is considered, they retained their Division 3 status by finishing mid-table and reached a cup-final.

Bailieboro Celtic A.F.C.:
Congratulations to Cillian Sheridan on making his full International debut for Ireland in their 2-1 win over Paraguay last Tuesday night at the RDS. It was a proud moment for everyone in his hometown and especially everybody connected with Bailieboro Celtic as Cillian prepared to replace record goalscorer Robbie Keane in the 63rd minute to earn what will hopefully be the first of many caps for the Rep of Ireland.

His confident and energetic performance certainly augurs well for the future and he rightly earned the plaudits of his teammates like Robbie Keane who in his after match comments predicted a bright future for the Bailieborough lad.

His elevation to the National squad is a source of immense pride in his home town and should prove to be an inspiration to all the talented youngsters currently starring for the Bailieboro Celtic under-age teams from 7 to 17 after all its only 9 years ago that at the ripe old age of 12 that young Cillian was began to follow his dream when starring in the N.E.C.S.L. for the Bailieboro Celtic Under 12’s !
