Launch this Friday night:
The long awaited book 'Bailieborough A Pictorial Past' will be
launched this Friday May 28th at 8 pm in Bailieborough Business
Centre, Shercock Rd., Bailieborough. Special guest former Primate
of all Ireland Lord Eames will launch the book and it's anticipated
there will be a large attendance on the night.
Light refreshments will be served and everyone is most welcome.
Leslie McKeague who compiled this pictorial was guest on Charlie
McGettigan's ‘Saturday Connection’ program on Shannonside/Northern
Sound last Saturday morning. They chatted about the book; it's
forthcoming launch and events in Bailieborough's 400 celebrations.
Charlie then did a live rendition of 'Bailieborough and Me' a
song he wrote for the Cavan song contest way back in the 1970s.

400th Anniversary:
To celebrate Bailieborough’s 400th anniversary a display
of local history projects from the local national schools will
be on display in the Bailieborough library from 3rd June. Contact

400th Celebrations:
Exhibition and Lecture in Brakey Hall; On Friday evening, June
11th an Exhibition and Lecture pertaining to the various memorabilia
of the Orange Order will take place in the recently refurbished
Brakey Hall—situated just off the Bailieborough/ Kingscourt
Road. There will be a Lecture on the local history of the Orange
Order and a Marching Band will also be in attendance. Light refreshments
will be served and admission is free. All are most welcome to
attend.
Killinkere
Jamboree Festival 2010:
The Killinkere Jamboree are delighted to launch their most exciting
programme ever for this year's festival (June 4th till June 7th).
The highlight of the weekend will be the performance by Ireland's
top selling rock group 'The Saw Doctors’ on Sunday June
6th. Doors open at 9pm. Tickets are €25 and are available
from Sheanon's Butchers, Bailieboro Cabs and www.jamboree.ie There
will be a disco from 12.30 till 2.30. Tickets are selling fast
so buy early to avoid disappointment.
Day highlights over the weekend will be the Air Show on Sunday
June 6th. One of Europe’s top air stunt acts ‘The
Twister Duo’ will top the bill with their breathtaking aerobatic
stunts. The two planes perform synchronised loop the loops, twists
and barrel rolls that will leave spectators gasping. Other performers
include Ireland’s top air stunt pilot Dave Bruton, who is
a ten times national champion. The Ulster Break Dancing Championships
will see some of the best dancers from all over Ireland and the
UK compete for the title of Ulster Break Dancing Champion. Other
Sunday highlights include The Ulster Tug O' War championships,
The World Hen Racing Championships, Car Racing, Scramblers, Funfair
plus lots, lots more.
The highlight of Mondays events include Ulster Championship Boxing
with John Joe Nevin the headline performer, Open Darts Competition,
Pubteam Tug of War, The World Hen Racing Finals, Craggy Island
Funfair, Old Folks Party and lots, lots more. There will be a
shuttle bus leaving Bailieboro Cabs office on Main St. every hour.
Come along and enjoy a great weekend of music and craic!
Confirmation:
On Sunday afternoon last, May 23rd, The Most Reverend Leo O’Reilly,
Bishop of Kilmore, bestowed the Sacrament of Confirmation on 75
schoolchildren in St. Anne’s Chapel.
Great praise must go to the teachers most directly involved in
the children’s preparation for the Ceremony.

Keating Mobile Unit:
The Marie Keating Mobile Unit will be parked outside Cara Pharmacy,
Bailieborough on this Friday 28th May 2010 from 9.30am until 3pm.
There is a registered Nurse on board who provides cancer information
and awareness to the general public free of charge. The Nurse
will talk to customers one to one in a private area about any
concerns you have about cancer for yourself, a relative, work
colleague or neighbour.
The Unit is equipped with take home information leaflets on Bowel,
Lung, Skin, Testicular, Prostate, Cervical, Ovarian and Breast
cancer.

Shamrocks; Seniors & Juniors:
The Seniors had a disappointing night on Saturday when they came
away with a defeat to Kill by a single point. 1-09 to 1-08. The
Juniors 2nd team were on form when they came away with a 18-point
win, 2-13 to 0-01. The 3rd team got there first win of the season
on Sunday when they had a home win against Muintirconnacht, 2-08
to 1-04.
The Senior and Juniors are all out next weekend. The Seniors play
at home to Drung on Friday 27th night at 8pm in St Annes Park.
The 2nd team play Drung at home on Sunday 29th at 1pm in St Annes
Park. The 3rd team play Mullahoran at home on Wednesday night
at 8pm, and again on Sunday 29th away to Killinkere; time for
this game will be in the fixtures this week.
Club Development Fundraiser.
The Clubs is holding, its a Knockout- Gladiator Day on July 11th
in St Annes Park. This will be a family fun day out. There are
10 teams taking part in it, and there is sponsorship cards going
around at the minute, so please show your support.
Underage; Under 12 girls win Community Games final.
There was great excitement on Monday last when the Under 12 girls
returned to the town having won the final of the Community Games.
Their opponents were Drumlane who were a strong well-organised
team and were in control of the match in the first half. Whatever
the management said at half time certainly worked as the girls
came out and played a storming second half and won convincingly
in the end. This is a great achievement for the fledgling girls
section of the club. They now go on to represent Cavan in the
next round of the competition. Great credit is due to the management
for this success.
Under 16s: The Under 16s returned to winning ways with good wins
over Scarvey Gaels and St Killian’s (Killinkere/Cuchulainns)
during the week. They have one remaining fixture against Killygarry
and are hopeful of achieving a semi final place when the final
league table is completed.
Under 14s: Well done to the Under 14s who have qualified for the
final of the league having defeated Crosserlough in the semi final
last Thursday. They now meet Ramor United in the final on Thursday
3rd June in Kingspan Breffni Park.
The management and players would like to send our congratulations
to Jason Rahill who was a member of the St Patrick’s College
team who won the Ulster Colleges Dalton cup. Jason has been a
stalwart at full back for the under 14s all year and he used this
experience to good effect in the St Pats team.
County Minors.
Best of luck to Connor Gilsenan and Niall Comey and the rest of
the Cavan Minor Panel as they take on Fermanagh Next Sunday May
30th in Clones.
Training for under 8s and under 10s is ongoing on Tuesday evenings
at 6 on the Community School pitch for the 8s and at 7 in St Anne’s
Park for the 10s. All children are welcome to join. Parents can
meet the mentors at training.

‘Tractor Run’ on Sunday next, May 30th. The event
will commence at 2.00pm and will leave from the Hideout, The Vale.

Annual Bailieborough Mini-Marathon—Sponsored by Northern
Sound Radio:
This year will be the 14th staging of the Annual Bailieborough
Mini-Marathon—sponsored by Northern Sound Radio—and
it will take place on Sunday, June 13th, commencing at 2.30pm
from the Market Square. Why don’t you come along and Walk,
Jog or Run for the Charity of your choice or just enjoy a family
day out.
The event is open to people of all ages and has proven to be a
‘hit’ year after year. As in previous years, two routes
will be available to all participants—a six-mile course
and an easier four mile one. Refreshments and awards will be presented
in the Community Centre. Entry fee is €5, payable on the
day. Facilities of the Leisure Centre will be available free of

Celtic A.F.C.:
All roads will lead to the Meath and District League Grounds on
the Trim Road in Navan on Saturday evening next, May 29th when
the Bailieborough Celtic Senior side will play in the final of
the Fitzsimons Cup, at 6.30pm. Their opponents are yet to be known
but it will be either Black Bull or Kells/Blackwater.
All support will be most welcome for the side’s last game
of the 2009/10 season.

Cavan Hurling:
All roads lead to Breffni Park 3g on Wednesday for the Under 12
league finals blitz day. East Cavan Gaels have performed very
well in their first year of hurling and are looking forward to
their big day out. Ulster Council are providing an hour of top
quality coaching beforehand so they will be well equipped for
the games later that evening.
The fun starts at 6.30 and all support is welcome. Under 8 training
continues on Wednesdays in Killinkere at 6, and under 10 and 12s
at 7. All are welcome.
Kingscourt Stars introduced some hurling with their under 6 football
training on Sunday morning, coaches and children were very happy
with their very first time with a hurl in their hand and are looking

Arts and Cultural Centre Summer Events 2010
As part of its summer events programme, Bailieborough Arts and
Cultural Centre will host a performance of ‘Out of Canada’
by Canadian actor, Mark Finnan on Saturday June 19th. This entertaining
and informative concert tells of the trials and triumphs, hardships
and heartbreak, losses and loves of some of the Irish in early
Canada, with extracts from Mark Finnan’s Canadian folk plays
‘The Corktown Man’ and the ‘Ballad of D’Arcy
McGee.’ Mark will be accompanied by Canadian Traditional
musician Glen Caradus who will perform period pieces from the
time and modern pieces composed especially for this concert. Book

At the end of June as the primary schools shut for their summer
holidays, Bailieborough Arts and Cultural Centre will once again
hold their annual Arts, Crafts, Drama and Dance Summer Camps for

to Friday 2nd July with Week Two commencing on Monday 5th July

Smyth attends Joint
Policing Committee Training Seminar in Cork:
As part of her role as a member of the Bailieborough Joint Policing
Committee, Cllr. Niamh Smyth attended a special training seminar
in Rosscarberry, Co. Cork in advance of the inaugural meeting
of the committee on the 31st May. Speaking after the training
seminar, Cllr. Smyth said “it was a really useful and worthwhile
conference. We got the chance to raise issues of concern and we
were given answers to many of our questions. I really feel that
I am far better prepared to sit on this committee and thus liase
with both members of the public and An Garda Siochána on
issues affecting our local communities.” ‘While Crime
prevention is primarily a matter for the Department of Justice,
local authorities and local communities have a role to play in
addressing issues, such as Anti-Social Behaviour. I hope that
we will be in a position to organise and facilitate a number of
public meeting to outline to the local community our role and
how we are there to help them’
