400th Celebrations get off to a great start with ‘An Evening
of Music and Song’:
On Friday evening last, the Celebrations of Bailieborough 400th
Anniversary got off to a brilliant start with ‘An Evening
of Music and Song’ in Bailieborough Community School. Performances
were of an excellent standard and there was terrific variety in
the music and song for the packed audience to sit and admire.
The newly formed National Schools Choir, consisting of 120 children
from all four local national schools got the evening off to a
great start.
There followed a piano recital by Thomas Hanley, traditional music
from the Argue family from Tierworker and the Groove Jazz Band,
which performed to the interval. In the second part of the programme,
the Bailieborough School of Music Senior Band performed first
--under the leadership of Michael Gaskin, this was followed by
a stirring performance by Tommy McCluskey, Shane McCluskey and
Gary Cosgrove and the evening was rounded off by the singing of
the recently reformed Adult Cross Community Choir, under the direction
of Reverend Florence Taylor assisted by Fr. Charlie Gorman on
piano.
The M.C’s for the evening were four pupils from Bailieborough
Community School, Zoe Waller, Bobby Clarke, Megan Maguire and
Kayla Claffey and Mrs. Mary Sheanon of the B.D.A. gave an insight
into the planning of this project and the many other events which
will mark the celebrations of Bailieborough’s 400th Anniversary.
Many thanks to all who helped—in any way—to make this
event such an outstanding success.
