Shamrocks Underage; Under 14s - Feile Champions Again:
The under 14s have achieved the distinction of being County Cavan
Feile Champions for the second year in a row. In the competition,
which was played on Bank Holiday Monday, they qualified for the
semi final with a victory over Lacken. They then took on Crosserlough
in Kingspan Breffni Park and emerged victorious from this encounter
to set up a final meeting with old rivals Ramor United. Having
lost the under 13 final to the same opposition last year, the
Bailieborough lads were very determined to make amends and they
set about their task with great spirit. Playing against a strong
wind in the first half they led by 2 points at half time. With
the wind behind them they continued to take the game to their
opponents and ran out victorious in the end. Team captain Christopher
Dunne who weighed in with a goal in the final accepted the cup
and paid tribute to Ramor for a sporting game. The team then returned
to Bailieborough for a well-deserved meal in the Hotel Bailie.
They now go on to represent Cavan in the All Ireland Feile in
Derry in early July.
The under 14s were in action again on Thursday night last when
they defeated Cavan Gaels in their opening round of the league
in Terry Coyle park. They have a bye in the league this week.
Minors: The Minors hosted Ballyhaise on the Bank Holiday in the
league. Playing against a strong breeze in the first half they
were behind by 3 points at half time. However with the wind at
their backs in the second half they gained the upper hand and
ran out winners by 6 points at the end. They now play Redbridge
next Saturday at 2 pm in Redhills hoping for a win that may see
them through to the semi final.
Under 16s: The under 16s opened their league campaign on Friday
night when they played neighbours Shercock in St Anne’s
Park. In an exciting, high scoring game the Shamrocks emerged
victorious on a score line of 5 – 12 to 5 – 10. Their
next fixture is away to Ballyhaise on Tuesday evening.
