Tidy Towns Committee Formed:
At a Public meeting held in the Bailie Hotel, on Monday night last, a new ‘Tidy Towns’ committee was formed. The meeting was organised by the Community Council and was chaired by Council Chairman, Ciaran McKenna for the purpose of discussing, whether Bailieborough should compete in the National Tidy Towns Competition.
A slightly disappointing attendance of almost forty people made up for the lack of numbers present, particularly local business people, by their enthusiasm for the proposal and by the range and originality of ideas expressed. It was decided to participate in the competition and a ‘Steering Group’ was formed to lead initiatives for reducing litter and enhancing the Town’s appearance. The group will be aiming to involve residents groups, clubs, organisations, schools and individuals in various projects in specific areas.
This group will meet on Monday next, April 11th to commence work on an overall plan and consider how best to mobilise support for this initiative. Local residents are asked to support this groups campaign by reducing litter at every opportunity.
